Dear Local Business Owner/Manager,

Yorba Linda High School opened its doors in September of 2009. Each year, the students, parents and the community work together to create the best programs and organizations that help prepare the students for the future.

We are fortunate to be a part of a great school district, however, the school does not receive enough funds to support all of the athletics and programs offered for the students. Golf is not only a lesser-funded sport, but it is an expensive sport, as it takes place off campus. We believe this sport and our program, provides students with important life lessons such as patience, ethics, diligence and problem solving skills. Golf, at this level, is both a team sport and an individual sport.

The Yorba Linda High School Men’s and Women’s Golf Team will be hosting the 7th annual golf tournament fundraiser on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Black Gold Golf Course in Yorba Linda, home to both our Varsity teams.

We invite and encourage you to participate either by playing golf or by donating to our program. Any assistance you can provide is graciously accepted and appreciated.

         Our overall varsity season ended with 9 wins and 10 losses,  2 wins and 4 losses in league . We came in third place in league.

Booster Meeting Notes 2/5/15

YHLS GOLF BOOSTER CLUB MEETING 2/5/15

Attendees:  President Kathy Schaefer, Treasurer Wendy Bashura-Kaelin, Secretary Casandra Braun, Coach Dennis Riggs and Valerie Welham

Meeting called to order by Kathy Schaefer at 7:08pm

Orders of business:

1)     Our current VP, Tricia Penrose, has resigned as her son is no longer on the Men’s golf team.  This provision is required per the booster’s by-laws.  We will finish out the current school year without a replacement and will ask for nominees for the position in the near future for the following school year.

2)    The Treasurer, Wendy Bashura-Kaelin, advised the attendees that the current balance in our account is $13,831.00.

3)    We will look into renting a credit card reader from Wells Fargo this year for the tournament to be held at Black Gold on March 27^th.  We need to avoid a 1099 being filed against the renter of the machine instead of the booster organization.

4)    The Men’s banquet decoration budget has been set at $200.00.  Mrs. Susan Goode will be the Chair of Decorations and shall be assisted by Kathy Schaefer. 

5)    The golf tournament at Black Gold on March 27^th shall have a decorating budget of $200.00.  We anticipate the cost will be much less due to the reusing of many supplies from years past.

6)    We are awaiting the tax id number from the IRS.  It is anticipated at any time now. Kathy Schaefer will follow up with the IRS shortly for a status.  The board will be able to file our tax return for the year once we are provided with our tax id number.  We have been reinstated in the State of California.

7)    We are awaiting the district’s approval of our putting green/hitting area next to the softball fields on campus.  We will need to fundraise for the installation of the green and the hitting area.  Some ideas for the fundraising are to offer the parents/public an opportunity to purchase tiles or bricks for the surrounding area.  The board agreed to look into this issue further once the approval from the district is received.

8)    President Kathy Schaefer advised that she has scheduled the fundraising dinners for the remainder of the school year.  February’s will be at Blue Agave, March’s will be at Panda Express and April’s will be at Chipotle.  More information to follow.

9)    The board discussed the need for continued donations for the gift baskets for the Black Gold golf tournament.  It was decided that we will offer fewer baskets this year with a higher value to each basket.  A day to prepare the baskets has been tentatively set.

     As you probably know, Yorba Linda High School only opened its doors in September of 2009 and all involved have been working hard to making it the best it can be.  We are fortunate to have a great school district, however with budget cuts from the state, and a weak economy, programs are being cut or they have to provide finances themselves.  Golf is not only a lesser-funded sport, but it is an expensive sport as it has to take place off-campus.  We feel it is a very worthy sport, giving the kids life lessons such as patience, ethics, diligence, problem solving skills and is both a team sport and an individual sport which can be played for one’s whole life.

   

     The Yorba Linda High School Men’s and Women’s Golf Team will be hosting our sixth annual golf tournament fundraiser on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Black Gold Golf Course, one of the two golf courses serving the team as a home course.  We would like to invite you to play golf with us on that day, as well as to donate a few items to help make our fundraiser a success.  Our tax ID number is 27-0898054.  Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Women are on a roll

Congratulations to the Women's Varsity Golf team on winning the Rosary Tournament at Western Hills Golf Course.  

The team was lead by Brooke Graebe who shot 38 and Brittany Sok and Kylie Sok who both shot 39.

 This is the varsity's first tournament win.

Also, Varsity won it's first league match against Foothill H.S. at Black Gold. The team had a score of 208 to 219.

 Brooke Graebe was low metalist with a 1 under par 35.  

This was a great way to start the season!

Parent Meeting and Car Wash

There will be a parent meeting on September 3rd at YLHS at 6:30.  Please plan on attending to learn about the golf program.  We will have a lot of information and will also have products available to purchase to support the teams.  


We are working on the details for our annual Car Wash Fund Raiser.  All golf students are expected to participate and  pre-sell 10 tickets at $5 each.  More information to follow once the details are finalized.

Dear YLHS Golf Team Parents,

 

Your opportunity to golf in our upcoming tournament fundraiser at Black Gold at a discounted price is coming to an end next Friday (Feb 28). PLEASE get your tournament registration forms in by then so we have a headcount and so you can get the best price.  If you are using your "freebie card" to golf, please turn that in attached to the registration form so we have you in our headcount.  For foursomes, you can just deduct one fourth of the price if using the "freebie".   If you have not paid your dues ($325), please do so immediately to Coach Riggs so you can golf for free in the tournament (He has the freebie cards).

Please support the team by golfing in our tournament! Scramble format so any ability level can play.

 

 

 

 

**Also....all students who were on the team as of November should have turned in their gift card donations (from the business assigned to them) by January...please make sure your child has turned theirs in. They are an important part of our auction baskets at the tournament. 

 

++Price to golf now is $150.  Price to golf after Feb 28th is $185. Limited number of students will be allowed to play...speak to Coach Riggs.

Varsity Team Update

The YLHS Women's Varsity golf team is off to a great start.  Our overall record is 5 wins and 3 losses and we are 2 and 0 in league.  In the Rosary tournament we finished second behind Troy High School. 

 

Our team score has been under 200 in five of our matches and we have had the low medalist in seven out of eight matches.  In our recent match versus Orange Lutheran, our team was led by low medalist Brooke Graebe.  Brooke shot a 31 on the front 9 holes at Black Gold Golf Course which is 5 under par.
